Drawings of London
Richard Downer
Isle of Wight
In 1967, The General Post Office (GPO) decided to enhance the Telephone Directories of the British Isles with line illustrations. The front cover of each Directory featured a prominent building or landmark located in the principle town or city of a specific Directory Area. The commissions continued with Post Office Telecommunications and latterly British Telecom. As a result the capturing of local identities continued from 1967 until 1985. An archive of 600 original drawings capture the nature and time of particular locations across England, Scotland and Wales during the late twentieth century.
